TAPS (Telephone Processing & Analysis System) TAPS is a freestanding application designed to read and interpret the many differing line formats present in Call Charge Records (Telephone Bills) sourced by Australian Law Enforcement and other Government Agencies. TAPS gives Analyst's and Investigators a tool for the rapid processing and delivery of Call Charge Records on the Windows platform. Initially, the recognition engine scans the raw file being processed, and extracts as much information from the file as possible and presents this in a Pre-processor window. Once these settings have been confirmed or edited, data processing begins. Output is automatically saved to a working directory and may optionally be sent to the clipboard. CCR types that can be currently processed are:
Speed of processing is increased by storing session settings and pre-processing the input file to illicit as much information about the CCR as possible. For example; The date range, owner agency and references, CCR type, Cost, Line type, Billing Subscriber, if it's a Silent line, or a VPN (Virtual Private Network) Service. These are then added to the output file as header comments. TAPS processes and interprets hundreds of lines in seconds, reformatting and out putting which would take analytical or data processing staff many hours. Benchmarks have shown TAPS to process 2679 CCR lines in just 0.82 seconds and 13992 lines of a CELL DUMP in 2.38 seconds. During processing TAPS also produces a frequency count of called numbers, which is automatically saved as a Rich Text Document for later review. The frequency count can provide direction to your inquiry by immediately identifying regularly called phone numbers. Irrespective of input file type, TAPS outputs a standard comma separated output format, saved to a nominated working directory. The output file contains 25 fields for each processed line of the input file. These contain fields with all relevant data extracted and reformatted in to a consistent standard, which can then be imported directly into i2's Pattern Tracer, Analyst's Notebook, iBase or Microsoft Excel, and any other application accepting a text based comma separated file import, or sent to the clipboard. The output also contains within the 25 fields, data relevant to processing and the origin of the call data. In the event that the output is imported in to a large database and analysis determines a particular call of significant interest, its origin can be traced by filename, CCR reference numbers, or Operation name. In addition to the standard output, TAPS can optionally output data compatible with a number of other industry standard importers, including; SIDS and iBase. TAPS interprets the telephone numbers and assigns the appropriate Analyst's Notebook icons, which further increases the speed and ease of analysis with i2 products. Once a number of files have been processed, they can be joined using TAPS into one file enabling import into a database in a single session. This is possible due to the common format of the output regardless of input file type or originating agency. Further, with a processed file, you can analyse the called numbers with the click of a button. This module gives a break down of call type, mobile origins and service providers; call destinations and country codes (down to towns and suburbs in some cases). This enables you to quickly ascertain call content if you are looking for particular activity or destinations. An optional module allows phone numbers within the processed data to be passed to a public number database, containing over 8 million residential and business listings. This returns the subscribers names for any publicly listed numbers that are matched. Address data is also returned and output. Click here to request further information on this product |
